My First Maternity Session!

I recently visited my cousin in Virginia and we carved out some time for something really special: a maternity photo session! She’s expecting her second child next month, and I have been itching to get into maternity work… so it was a win win.

This was actually my first maternity session, and I walked away from it feeling so inspired. There’s something quietly powerful about documenting this season of life. It’s soft, slow, sometimes chaotic — but so full of love. That experience made me realize just how much I want to offer maternity photography here at home in Northeast Ohio.

Photographing Motherhood (For the First Time)

After 2 days of constant on-and-off rain, we were running out of time and decided to just bring umbrellas and go for it during a lull. We headed to a nearby park with a little beach area and a fishing dock, anxiously watching the clouds. My cousin wore a gorgeous cream lace dress, and her daughter wore the most adorable pink gingham dress that her and I picked out the night before. When we got there, the beach was almost completely covered in water but the rain had stopped so we got to work!

The Mother-Daughter Bond

One of my favorite parts of this session was capturing the sweet connection between her and her daughter. We took some really beautiful, tender photos of the two of them together — quiet moments, little laughs, and a few spontaneous hugs that melted my heart.

Out of respect for her privacy, I won’t be sharing any photos that show her daughter’s face, but they’re some of the most meaningful shots from the session — and a reminder that maternity sessions can also be a celebration of motherhood in all its forms.
